If someone told me that I’d be sitting here writing a letter to you two years ago, I probably would say “well that would track.” Two years ago, we were talking loosely, but we met up a couple of times; at the golf course and at the bowling alley, but the day I set sail to the world that had an image of “us” everywhere was the day I took your UCLA graduation pictures. A year later, you’ve come to my house, I’ve cooked for you, we’ve gone candle shopping, I’ve come to your house, we’ve talked for hours and slept over calls, we’ve gone on an unofficial picnic date, and surprisingly, we are still waxing strong. It’s been another year, and we’ve achieved a lot together. I’ve achieved a lot personally, you too! The ship is still sailing, but I’m not writing this to talk about that. I’m here to talk about how you’ve made it through a year in medical school. How you’ve made it despite all the challenges that first-years go through. How you’ve made it through all the moments of anxiety, feelings of uncertainty, the tears, the stress, the moments of defeat, the joys, the laughs, and smiles, the moments of accomplishments. We both know that this journey is going to take a lot, it already has, but you’re still waxing strong. I’ve watched you get up every morning and get dressed; different outfit every day, storming out the door going to save the world. The most beautiful thing that has come out of this is the fact that every single day, I continue to fall for you; deeper. So I’m writing this to acknowledge that I love you and I am renewing my commitment to you as you renew my spirit, heart, and soul every day. I will dedicate my life to make you smile and make your laugh. I will dedicate my time to make sure you’re taken care of. I will dedicate my strength to protect you. I will dedicate my words to our Lord to make sure you continue to stay blessed. As you continue to venture on into your second year, I promise to stand beside you. I promise to always be there through thick and thin. I’ll be there even when no one else is. No questions asked.
